Institute for Transcultural Health Science (ITG): Mission – History – Cooperations

The Institute for Transcultural Health Research (ITG) conducts research and provides education to improve health care for people from diverse cultural backgrounds. In order to provide adequate medical care to people with a migration background or a history of displacement, it is necessary to incorporate cultural aspects into psychosocial support measures. Against this backdrop, the ITG is dedicated to researching culturally diverse concepts in the field of health and illness and develops culturally sensitive programs for pre- and post-treatment care both in Germany and abroad. In addition to the master’s program in “Transcultural Trauma Pedagogy,” the ITG also offers continuing education courses on transcultural topics for healthcare professionals.

Areas of Focus at the ITG

The ITG’s primary mission is to conduct scientifically grounded projects in the field of transcultural health research and to deliver valid results with high practical relevance. Our services are primarily aimed at healthcare organizations and institutions, particularly health authorities, health insurance companies, and welfare organizations, as well as globally operating organizations such as the UN or WHO. Furthermore, we conduct diagnostic examinations as part of both outpatient and inpatient care, as well as provide continuing education for students and medical staff in the field of transcultural health. Both of these are carried out in close collaboration with the DHBW.
