Institute for Transcultural Health Science

The Institute for Transcultural Health Research (ITG) was founded with the goal of using research and teaching to improve health care for people from diverse cultural backgrounds. Increasing globalization and the emergence of multicultural societies make it increasingly necessary to incorporate cultural aspects into medical, psychotherapeutic, and social care. The target group consists primarily of migrants and refugees, whose psychosocial care requires special consideration of cultural aspects. You can learn more on the ITG’s YouTube channel.

Against this backdrop, the ITG examines the cultural influences on various health concepts and core terms such as “health,” “illness,” and “healing,” the underlying view of humanity that shapes these concepts, and the implications for health care. In addition, we develop culturally sensitive intervention programs and conduct continuing education courses on relevant topics for health care professionals.
